How much money would you take to Europe on vacation as miscellaneous spending money?

I think i will take about 400 or so. does anyone know about how much Euro that would be? how much would you take with you?

1. where in europe? Big towns like Paris London Amsterdam Rome Venice are quite expensive, and us$ 400 are about 300 euros. Talking about my country: an espresso in Rome is 1 euro, a postcard is 50c and a stamp for the US is 62 cents. bus ticket is about 1 euro per ride a pack of cigarettes cost from 3.30 to 4.50 euros. a package of aspirin is 7 euros. Dinner with pizza and a beer gonna cost you 10- 12 euros. Gasoline is 1,21 euro per liter (4,57 euro per gallon ....sigh! ) In italy there are only pay toll highways. Hope this help.
2. I lived in europe for almost 2 years. Now that it has changed to euros there it makes it easier to handle money than when each country had their own currency. I wouldn't carry a whole lot of money with me but have access to it through american express. I found that in my 2 yrs of living there that if I carried a lot of money on me as an american all it did was attract attention to me when I made purchases. I had over 300 american dollars at one time on me and got questioned by the military police because they thought I was doing something illegal because I carried to much money. After being detained for hours to prove different, I was released. At least with an american express bank acct you can go to any bank in the world and get access to the money when you need it and not have to worry about being hasseled or robbed.
